Project description

This project was part of my Data Analytics Bootcamp at Eskwelabs, where our team aimed to analyze a fictional dataset for a hypothetical company, EskweGifts, an e-commerce startup. Eskwelabs’ Bootcamp emphasizes practical skills in data analysis, storytelling, and visualization, using tools such as SQL, Power BI, and Google Data Studio. Through this Bootcamp, I honed my skills in translating complex data into actionable insights and presenting them effectively to business stakeholders.

Timeline

From exploration to the final dashboard: 5 weeks, while balancing other Bootcamp projects.

Background

For this Bootcamp assignment, we were given an artificial dataset representing EskweGifts, an e-commerce company that sells highly customizable SKUs. Despite its novelty in the market, the company was experiencing year-over-year declines in profitability. Our task was to investigate customer behavior, analyze voucher usage, and provide actionable insights that could hypothetically enhance customer retention and improve profitability.

Process

Research & Planning

We began by reviewing the provided dataset and set our analysis scope to customer demographics, purchasing behaviors, and voucher usage trends. Our guiding questions included identifying customer segments, understanding the impact of vouchers, and pinpointing potential strategies for retention and profit improvement.

Wireframing & Data Visualization

With my background in UI/UX, I focused heavily on creating initial wireframes for the dashboard, ensuring the data would be presented in a clean, logical, and visually appealing manner for stakeholders. We used Looker Studio to create the final visuals, prioritizing cognitive ease so the information could be easily understood by audiences with varying levels of data literacy.

Insight Generation

Our insight generation phase involved a collaborative approach to examining the dataset. We used RFM (Recency, Frequency, Monetary) analysis to classify customers into segments, followed by a detailed review of trends in voucher usage and demographic impact. Our team worked together to interpret patterns, extracting insights to support strategic recommendations for retention and marketing.

Presentation & Optimization

I took initiative in structuring the PowerPoint presentation, ensuring our findings were conveyed clearly and effectively, but my groupmates contributed greatly with their insights and skills. We used generative AI to draft parts of the script, refining it to make sure the presentation was logical and accessible for our target audience.

Final Thoughts

Participating in Eskwelabs’ Data Analytics Bootcamp provided me with hands-on experience in data analytics and project management. This project sharpened my ability to manage end-to-end analysis tasks, from wireframing visual layouts to generating insights and presenting to stakeholders. I also gained valuable technical skills such as data visualization, data cleaning, data management, and dashboard design, all of which prepared me for real-world, data-driven roles.
